FAQ
Do I need to call my old provider to switch?

No. Since 12 September 2024 One Touch Switch lets you deal only with your new provider; the old one ends the contract and tells you about any fees. The gap in service should be no more than one working day.

What compensation can I get if my broadband goes down?

Providers in Ofcom’s automatic compensation scheme pay £10.34 a day after two working days without repair, £32.31 for a missed engineer visit, and £6.46 a day for a delayed start (rates from 1 April 2026).

Who can get a social tariff?

Usually anyone on Universal Credit, Pension Credit and some other benefits, such as ESA, JSA and Income Support. You can move to one with your current provider at no charge and leave it without a penalty.

What happens to my landline in 2027?

Analogue phone lines are being switched off by 31 January 2027. Calls move to Digital Voice through your router; vulnerable customers can ask for backup power.

Can my provider raise the price during my contract?

Only by an amount in pounds and pence written into the contract. Since 17 January 2025 Ofcom bans rises linked to inflation (CPI or RPI plus a percentage) in new contracts. If a rise was not set out when you signed, you can usually leave without a penalty within 30 days of being told.

Facts last checked 24 October 2026 against Ofcom and provider terms.
